You might find some
monitor
calibration tools useful. I won't comment on what
the ``correct'' gamma correction values are, since nobody seems
to be able to agree. (Personally, setting my own screen
temperature to sRGB and the gamma to 2.2 makes everything seem
overwhelmingly dark and warm, but it could just be what I'm
used to.) Norman

job explaining things like black level and gamma. Worth a
look.
