this was an odd project I've been rolling around in my mind for a number of years. it started my freshman year in college when I trained a fixed-lens 35mm on some trees-with-lights.

shot with a polaroid automatic 350 on a monopod, with 667 film. exposure times are all one second or more.

tf nighttrees 0004  Sm    Med    Lg
Description : taken at the end of the block. you can even read the street sign.

the scalloping on the right edge is due to an unintended early stop when pulling the picture out of the camera. a previous owner of my 350 apparently neglected to properly clean the steel rollers, and the bearings are slightly rusted. I figure that they'll smooth themselves back out in time, so long as I keep them clean and continue to pull film through them.

Description : even a monopod is wobbly when the exposure is over a few seconds. (I seem to recall around 8 in this case.) the luminous quality of the leaves on the ground still comes through. I need to try this shot again with a tripod and cable release.

tf nighttrees 0006  Sm    Med    Lg
Description : taken in the church parking lot across from my house. the street is fairly busy, even at night, and you can see headlight streaks.

I find this shot very foreboding; something about the light being too low on the trees makes them appear very sinister.
